How does the Venocuff II work? Most major veins have small one-way valves inside them to help keep the blood moving in the correct direction. As a result of many factors (for example age, pregnancy, obesity, or long periods of standing) the vein may start to be stretched and dilate - this may mean that the one-way valves no longer close properly and therefore do not work effectively. The Venocuff II acts like a belt or corset to reduce the size of the vein back to normal so the one-way valve may be able to function normally again. The Venocuff II is wrapped around the outside of the vein at the position of the valve, and is then reduced in size until the vein is back to normal and the valve can function. The Venocuff II is then fixed in place and the operation is completed. The Venocuff II will not ‘wear-out' and will not need to be replaced.
The Venocuff II is not suitable for all people with varicose veins. Generally the younger you are and the less severe your varicose veins are, the more suitable you will be. However, the only way to be sure is to have a simple ultrasound examination of the veins in your legs. To arrange an ultrasound examination of your legs to check whether you are suitable for the Venocuff II please contact one of the surgeons in your area that perform the
Venocuff II
procedure.
How can I find a doctor who knows how to use the Venocuff II® to treat varicose veins? There are many surgeons in Australia and Europe using the Venocuff II to treat and prevent varicose veins. In Australia, you are required to be referred to a surgeon by your GP. Please click here to download an information sheet you can take to your GP.
